Insta360 Flow 2 Pro Smartphone Gimbal Boasts 360-Degree Pan, Full-Range Tilt, and a Whole Heap of AI Tricks
The rise of handheld gimbals have changed the game for many iPhone filmmakers and mobile content creators, as it allows you to capture more cinematic smartphone footage while maintaining stable and jitter-free frames. Insta360 is a relative newcomer to the space, having released their first smartphone gimbal just under two years ago. They’ve been making serious waves, though, which brings us to their newest release, the Insta360 Flow 2 Pro.
Billed as “the ultimate AI tracking stabilizer,” the smartphone gimbal doesn’t just stabilize your smartphone videos, it also leverages the outfit’s rich selection of AI tech to improve them. From subject tracking and zoom tracking to auto-centering and more, this thing can automate plenty of cinematography tasks with its clever AI smarts.
The Insta360 Flow 2 Pro uses a phone clamp to secure mobile devices on the gimbal, allowing it to work with universally with any phone in the market. According to the outfit, the clamp can accommodate any phone up to 3.3 inches wide and 0.4 inches in thickness, so it should be compatible with most any modern mobile device. Alternatively, they also offer an optional magnetic mount that lets you simply snap the phone on and off the gimbal. It has full support for Apple DockKit, by the way, so you can use the iPhone’s tracking tech if you like it better than Insta360’s own.
When used with the outfit’s camera app, though, it gives you access to the plethora of AI tech that’s long been found in their camera products. That includes the new Deep Track 4.0, which can track multiple subjects and keep the whole group centered in frame even when they’re on the move, even automatically zooming in and out as needed. It can also supposedly track fast movement even from a long distance, track animals, and resume tracking when a subject is blocked from view. There’s also 360-degree infinite pan tracking, so you can set down the gimbal and move around it, with the whole thing keeping you in frame automatically for convenient solo shooting.
The Insta360 Flow 2 Pro comes with a mirror at the back of the phone clamp, by the way, so you can do selfies using the rear camera with ease, as well as built-in tripod for setting down on a flat surface and a built-in selfie stick that lets you extend it by a few inches. The companion app has a teleprompter feature that can put your script over the live view onscreen, as well as remote control (via a second smartphone or Apple Watch) and gesture control.
It uses a three-axis gimbal similar to previous iterations, with a maximum control speed of 120 degrees per second. According to the outfit, this is their first gimbal with a full tilt range, giving you a wider range of motion for your camera movements. Other features include a versatile dial control, a 1,100 mAh battery rated for 10 hours of runtime, and a variety of creative shooting modes you can trigger with a tap.
The Insta360 Flow 2 Pro is available now, priced at $144.99.
