Chipolo Pop Supports Tracking Using Both Apple and Android Networks
Chipolo’s Bluetooth trackers can be grouped in three categories. There are the trackers that use the outfit’s own app, those that use the Apple Find My app, and ones that work with Google’s Find My Device network. This time around, the outfit is combining all three types of trackers into one in the form of the Chipolo Pop.
That’s right, this Bluetooth tracker works with both Apple’s and Google’s respective crowdsourced networks, as well as Chipolo’s own limited network. As such, you get to enjoy a tracker that’s more device-agnostic, ensuring you can continue using it whether you go with an iPhone or an Android for your next phone upgrade.
The Chipolo Pop is a disc-shaped tile that measures 1.5 x 0.3 inches (diameter x thickness), with a hole right on the body for easily attaching it to key rings, carabiners, and straps (probably won’t fit in your key organizer, though). It has a Bluetooth range of 300 feet, so you can easily locate nearby items without having to rely on crowdsourced data, as well as a 120 dB alarm that should make it easier to figure out the exact placement, which is especially useful when the object you’re looking for has slipped under furniture or obscured in some other way. The whole thing is powered by an easily replaceable CR2032 coin battery (rated for around a year of use), as well, so you won’t need to recharge it every few weeks like many other modern devices.
It has an IP55 rating, which means it can handle splashes and light rain, but you definitely don’t want it submerged in any kind of water. This makes it viable for use even with items that can get exposed to the elements, just so long as it’s not going in the water at any point.
The Chipolo Pop can work with Apple devices running iOS 14.5 or later and iPadOS 14.5 or later, as well as Android devices running Android 9 or later. That means, you can freely use it whether you use Apple or Android devices, so you can switch to different platforms without having to purchase an entirely new set of Bluetooth trackers. Do note, the tracker can only work with one network at a time, so you have to choose whether you’re using it with an Apple or Android device. When you want to switch, you can reset the tracker by removing it from the current app, then connecting it to a new device and setting it up there, so switching between networks is straightforward enough.
The Chipolo app, by the way, can be used whether it’s paired to an Apple or Android device, since it does totally different things than those networks. Why even bother using the Chipolo app, though? For the most part, it’s because the app gives you access to a few location features that you might find useful, such as using the tracker to make your phone right (when you can’t find your phone), changing the ringtone, and adjusting the ringtone volume. The tracker can also be used as a remote shutter for your phone camera, by the way, which is nice accessory function.
The Chipolo Pop is available now in six different colors, priced at $29.
