Anker MagGo USB-C Adapter Snaps an SD Card Reader at the Back of Your iPhone
Apple putting magnets on the back of their phones have led to some interesting accessories, such as snap-on wallets and power banks, so much so that third-part accessory makers also sell snap-on magnets, so Android users can use the same contraptions on their phone. There have been so many cool MagSafe accessories, in fact, that it’s becoming a hassle having to remove one accessory just to use another. The Anker MagGo USB-C Adapter is another device that’s likely going into many people’s MagSafe rotation.
An SD card reader, the accessory lets you expand your iPhone’s storage, giving you a place to offload all those excess photos and videos that are piling up inside your phone. No need to consider the lack of an SD card slot a downside for owning an iPhone – this thing makes it extremely convenient to add one all the same.
The Anker MagGo USB-C Adapter is a puck-shaped device that snaps to the back of your iPhone, instantly giving you a card slot that can take any standard SD or TF cards. A flat cable attached to the puck can plug in to the iPhone’s USB-C slot to enable easy saving to an external memory card, making it easy to expand your device’s available storage. You can treat it similar to any onboard storage once set up, allowing you to both transfer files and save to the card directly from various apps.
According to the outfit, it supports data transfers up to 312MBps, allowing you to use it to record ProRes 4K recordings at 60fps on the iPhone, provided you use a card that supports at least 220MBps. Plus, having the convenience of that external memory card means you can simply swap in a new card as soon as the current one gets filled, allowing you to continue recording with nothing more than s short break. Do note, they recommend using a memory card with a minimum 256GB capacity if you plan to record in files of that quality, so you’re going to be forking out a bit of cash for that extra storage (especially, if you plan to keep a few of them on hand).
The Anker MagGo USB-C Adapter comes with a USB-C slot on the puck’s body, which you can use to charge your iPhone at a 42.5W max output without having to remove the accessory. Sadly, it will obstruct wireless charging, so that one is completely out of the question. Since the device adds both a puck and a cable that runs through the lower back of your iPhone, it could make handling your phone just a little tougher than usual, so it’s the kind of thing that will likely take some getting used to. Still, if you want the convenience of extendable storage and, even better, 4K60 ProRes recordings, it’s well worth any additional hassle.
Can you use this with Android phones? Well, you can snap it to back of smartphones you reinforce with stick-on magnets in the rear. We don’t know if the actual card reader will work with Android devices, though, so you might want to test it out first with your specific phone model before getting one.
The Anker MagGo USB-C Adapter is available now.
